The NZ Transport Agency has announced in a Technical Advice Note (TAN #16-17) that, together with Australian road controlling authorities, they are introducing an Australasian road safety barrier accreditation scheme. Click here to view the TAN.
The road safety barrier accreditation scheme is a co-ordinated training scheme and accreditation for the supply, installation and maintenance of road safety barriers.
CSP Pacific has had a big part to play in bringing this scheme to fruition with Technical Support and Marketing Manager, Sue Walker, the New Zealand representative on the Australasian Industry working party. This working party was tasked, by the road controlling authorities, to investigate and then recommend a suitable scheme that would improve barrier industry standards.
Sue – assisted by Downer NZ Project Lead, Sean O’Neill and Civil Contractors NZ Technical Manager, Alan Stevens - spent many hours working with Australian industry counterparts to come up with a suitable scheme.
The working party made their recommendation to use a model based on the highly successful United Kingdom’s Highways Agency Sector schemes. Subsequently Austroads, the organisation of Australasian road transport and traffic agencies, agreed to implement the scheme across Australia and New Zealand.
“I am really proud to have played a part in a process that will place barrier industry players on a more equal footing and raise industry standards.” says Sue.
The Austroads road safety barrier accreditation will be phased in as a formal requirement for NZ Transport Agency road safety barrier contract work.
