Multiplate 100+ Structures

CSP Pacific is New Zealand’s only manufacturer of aluminium Multiplate 100+ structures.

Corrugated aluminium plate culverts have been used around the world for over 60 years and are a proven option for many civil infrastructure applications. Multiplate 100+ is a premium, enhanced durability range of aluminium culverts engineered to achieve a 100 year design life in New Zealand conditions. CSP Pacific also fabricate culverts for less demanding applications - galvanised Steel Multiplate for up to 50 years service life and standard Aluminium Multiplate for 75 years service life.

Multiplate 100+ culverts span up to 10m with spans over 8m achieved by using coarse backfill compacted to 90% minimum. For spans exceeding 10m refer to CSP Pacific SuperCor® information.

Application Versatility

The versatility of Multiplate structures is limited only by engineering inventiveness. Traditional uses include culverts - small and large, bridges, storm drains, pedestrian and stock underpasses. However, other applications include mine and tunnel portal protection, conveyor housings, water tanks, caissons, underground storage facilities, and even wineries.

Cost Benefits

Multiplate 100+ installation can provide many advantages:

  • Premium durability culvert option offering service life of 100 years.
  • Culverts are designed by Project Engineers however CSP Pacific can review the structural design and issue Producer Statement PS2 (Design Review).
  • Aluminium oxidation products look similar to the metal itself so there is no ‘rusty’ appearance.
  • Fast economical job completion.
  • Simple assembly of the culvert - please note the project requires engineering supervision and the backfilling of the structure requires skill and experience.
  • Low equipment costs for assembly due to the very light weight of the average plate, i.e. less than 75kg.
  • Pre-assembly reduces inconvenience and cost to maintain existing services.

Ease of Installation

Easy installation of Multiplate 100+ structures offers very real benefits to specifiers in both normal and difficult situations. The easily handled corrugated plate system can be erected on-site - an ideal solution for remote areas where access is difficult - or delivered to site fully assembled if access and transport regulations allow, where fast job completion is vital.

Multiplate structures derive their strength through interaction of the surrounding backfill. Design and supervision of this should be conducted by an experienced engineer. The site engineer is to ensure that assumptions made at the design stage are present on site and that backfilling is in accordance with the specification.

Standards and Approvals

Design, manufacture and Installation requirements for Multiplate 100+ structures are specified in AS/NZS 2041: Buried Corrugated Metal structures. This is a joint Australian and New Zealand Standard with several parts. Those applicable to Multiplate 100+ structures are as follows:
