The East Taupo Arterial (ETA) is currently under construction and runs along the eastern outskirts of Taupo from Wairakei to Taupo Airport, including a bridge over the Waikato River. When complete the new road will be an alternative route for SH 1. The objective of the 16km of new highway is to reduce the number of heavy vehicles traveling through the Taupo CBD and along the lakefront, reducing traffic congestion during the holiday season and events.
Construction works commenced in October 2008. In 2009 over 1 million m3 of earthworks were completed along with the installation of all the large culvert pipes. Now, in 2010, Fulton Hogan has progressed the physical works significantly with the major earthworks completed, two of the four bridges in place and construction of the pavement underway.
“CSP Pacific has been awarded the large sign mounting system contract for this new arterial route,” said Zalman Paris, Business Unit Manager, CSP Pacific. “This is the second national roadway NZTA project we have been awarded for the Breakaway Sign Post System, after the SH2 Dowse to Petone motorway project in Wellington. It is good to see that this cost effective, easy to install system is being picked up by the industry.”

“This is the first time we have used CSP Pacific’s Breakaway Signpost System on a project of any scale and this is a significant project in terms of signage,” said Nigel Frost, Sign Manager, Fulton Hogan. “We wanted to offer our customers an alternative, price competitive system to what has previously been used and that is why we choose CSP Pacific’s Breakaway Sign Post System.”
