The TL-1 water filled barriers were perfect to outline the course and offer protection for the crowd while still keeping them close to the action.

Queen's birthday weekend 2009 saw the transformation of Auckland's Britomart downtown car park into an impressive arena.

In just three days a temporary 1400-seat grand stand and an arena to cater for 10,000 people was built to host the first RedBull City Scramble - New Zealand's inaugural urban motorbike endurocross event.

The course and event were conceived by RedBull-sponsored Chris Birch, New Zealand's leading endurocross rider who, with the help of a few mates, designed a course that included two big rock gardens, bridges (so fans could see the action from above), ramps, banks and jumps.

"The organisers must always consider public safety when planning an event like this," said David Russell, Hire Manager for CSP Pacific. "The TL-1 water filled barriers were perfect to outline the course and offer protection for the crowd while still keeping them close to the action - and they are quick and easy to install. Although short term hires for events is not our core business we were able to help out with enough barriers (270 in total) to complete the course."

"I chose the water filled orange barrier specifically for their crash rating to ease the resource consent process with the Council," said Ivan Mennim, Sports Marketing Manager for Red Bull NZ. "The other main consideration is that I can trust I will get clean and usually new barriers. Aesthetics is a large part of an event like this and using one colour barrier is preferable."

The day was a huge success with New Zealander Rory Mead taking out the event from Chris Birch with German rider, Andreas Lettinbelcher, finishing third.

"We hope to make this an annual event based on the success of this year," added Ivan. "I've used CSP Pacific in the past and they are definitely on speed dial in my phone come event time."
