Nu-Guard® 31 Guardrail System

It has a smaller footprint, it is lighter weight and has no requirement for a blockout, this means the Nu-Guard® 31 steel post guardrail system is comparable in cost to wooden post systems and is simpler and quicker to install.

Features:

  System has a smaller footprint and no blockout –maximises road area
  Only 12g W-beam guardrail system that has been tested and approved to NCHRP 350 TL-4 providing containment and redirection of high Centre of Gravity (CoG) vehicles 
  Tested and approved to MASH TL-3
  NUCOR® steel posts are one third the weight and 16 times smaller in area than timber posts - which means easier handling and transport
  High tensile galvanised NUCOR® steel post designed for easier after-impact repair of system
  Environmentally friendly - manufactured using recycled steel, no timber treatment by-product leaching into soil
  Uses standard highway rail and fixings
  Can be used as a median or roadside barrier
  NUCOR® steel posts designed to split on impact to avoid the guardrail tearing and reduce the incidence of wheel snagging
  NUCOR® steel posts and no blockout enable faster installation (using post rammer) and with steel, longer post life
  X-350: 31 TL-3 end terminal available - can be installed at the same rail height as Nu-Guard® 31

  Maximum deflection is 1.2m for median and roadside applications at NCHRP350 TL-4 criteria

Standards and Acceptance

The system has been tested to the guidelines in NCHRP 350 (TL-3 & TL-4) and MASH (TL-3) for a median and roadside longitudinal barrier and when correctly installed and maintained is capable of stopping, containing or redirecting an errant vehicle in a safe manner under NCHRP 350 and MASH impact conditions.

Nu-Guard® 31 is listed in NZTA Specification M23 Appendix A for use on New Zealand State Highway roading network.
